Garth Reeves


Garth has 12+ years of experience in instructional leadership within the movement for learner-centered school design to meet the needs of students in the 21st century. He has extensive teaching and leadership experience in New York City, Highline, and Seattle Public School systems. He has proven experience in implementing change initiatives, fostering innovation, and coaching for improvement in the domains of competency-based assessment, personalized instruction, inquiry pedagogy, backward design, implementation of restorative practices, advisory, and design and implementation of site-based professional development.

Scott Canfield, Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer

Scott Canfield


Scott has a decade of experience in public education in local school districts as a teacher and administrator. Most recently, Scott has served as assistant principal at West Seattle High School where he has partnered with the City of Seattle Dept. of Education and Early Learning, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound, YMCA, National Center for Restorative Justice, and other CBOs to dramatically reduce discipline and academic opportunity gaps.

Halma Abubakar, Director of Operations

Halma Abubakar


Halma is a community organizer with extensive experience in managing the operations of a charter public school and community based organizations in Seattle. She is a member of the Somali Parent Education Board (SPEB) and one of the founding members of Meraki Library. Most recently, she served as founding Operations Manager at Summit Altas and helped fully enroll and successfully launch the school. Halma is excited to start her journey with Cascade | Midway Academy and is looking forward to collaborating and building meaningful relationships with the community, parents and staff.

Jackie Wardrip Smith, Math Advisor

Jackie Wardrip

Jackie has 5 years of teaching experience in Math and Sciences. Her background is in Biological Sciences and she is very passionate about supporting students in their emotional and academic development. Her persistent attitude and varied instructional methods helps her maintain learning in the classroom. She was a founding member of Rocketship Redwood City Prep from 2015-2018 and has since been working with High Schoolers at ACE Charter. Jackie is looking forward to building relationships with a new community with staff, families and students at Cascade Midway Academy.
